Delta is a flexible, three-module qualification for people with experience of teaching English to speakers of other languages who want to progress further in their careers. Because it is awarded by Cambridge English Language Assessment, part of the University of Cambridge, Delta is internationally recognised, highly respected and a benchmark for quality.
Module 1 (the exam) focuses on extending and developing candidates’ knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning English in a range of contexts.
Module 2 (teaching practice) focuses on developing awareness and expertise in the principles and professional practice of teaching English in a range of contexts.
Module 3 (course design) focuses on needs analysis, syllabus design, course planning and assessment.
The three modules can also be taken separately and are separately certificated.
The three modules of Delta will:
This qualification is for teachers with some experience who want to:
The Cambridge Delta is recognised and accepted all over the world by organisations employing English language teachers. All three modules are separately accredited by Ofqual, the regulator for qualifications, exams and tests in England at Level 7 on the National Qualifications Framework for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Delta modules can also be integrated into some MA programmes in the UK.
Cambridge say that people entering the course will normally have at least two years' full-time relevant teaching experience, a first degree, an initial teaching qualification, a range of teaching experience, and a sufficient level of English. As the wording suggests, these are not absolute requirements. In practice, though, course providers are quite precious about their pass rates and so often impose their own requirements (such as a longer period of teaching experience) on people applying to take the course through them. Having taken part in a lot of professional development is probably the most useful thing for actually passing the course.

The Irish Academy is the only internationally recognised Cambridge English CELTA Teacher Training Centre throughout the Canary Islands. As a small family-run centre we offer full-time intensive CELTA courses throughout the year. And because we are small, we are able to give your CELTA experience a personal touch.
We know that doing a CELTA is an important step for you whether you are a school or university leaver starting out as a teacher, or an established teacher wishing to refresh your skills and methodology to help you to work in Bilingual or CLIL contexts, or as a professional in another field wishing to change career paths.
It is also important to note that as we collaborate with BEDA, the Catholic School Association, we often hear about available teaching and assistant positions first, and are also asked to place CELTA graduates in primary and secondary schools when they are recruiting.
Apply now and become part of our growing CELTA family!

Residence Self-contained Apartments: These are located in the new university residence (ULPGC), 5 mins walk form the school.
Other Apartments: The Irish Academy is in contact with various landlords in the neighbourhood near to the school and so other apartments to share or for individual use may be available upon request.

Las Palmas may be one of the largest cities in Spain but it retains a town-like intimacy and friendliness. It has one of the longest coastlines in Europe which provides some fantastic beach spaces to enjoy in the year-long clement weather.
I cannot rate the facilities and location because I took an online course. But I'm more than happy with the rest!
CELTA with the Irish Academy was a great experience. Learned a lot from amazing teachers and great people.
My first try at CELTA was last August but I felt like I wasn´t prepared well to take part in this course so I left it. When I saw the academy was going to do an online CELTA course, I decided to give it a second chance. This course has not only helped me to get into my teaching skills (because teaching is something I have never done) but also it has helped me a lot more with my confidence and worthiness, in general. It was an also great opportunity to learn from practice, reflections and several observations we had in these four weeks.
