Delta is a flexible, three-module qualification for people with experience of teaching English to speakers of other languages who want to progress further in their careers. Because it is awarded by Cambridge English Language Assessment, part of the University of Cambridge, Delta is internationally recognised, highly respected and a benchmark for quality.
Module 1 (the exam) focuses on extending and developing candidates’ knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning English in a range of contexts.
Module 2 (teaching practice) focuses on developing awareness and expertise in the principles and professional practice of teaching English in a range of contexts.
Module 3 (course design) focuses on needs analysis, syllabus design, course planning and assessment.
The three modules can also be taken separately and are separately certificated.
The three modules of Delta will:
This qualification is for teachers with some experience who want to:
The Cambridge Delta is recognised and accepted all over the world by organisations employing English language teachers. All three modules are separately accredited by Ofqual, the regulator for qualifications, exams and tests in England at Level 7 on the National Qualifications Framework for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Delta modules can also be integrated into some MA programmes in the UK.
Cambridge say that people entering the course will normally have at least two years' full-time relevant teaching experience, a first degree, an initial teaching qualification, a range of teaching experience, and a sufficient level of English. As the wording suggests, these are not absolute requirements. In practice, though, course providers are quite precious about their pass rates and so often impose their own requirements (such as a longer period of teaching experience) on people applying to take the course through them. Having taken part in a lot of professional development is probably the most useful thing for actually passing the course.

There is a dedicated session on the course which focuses on helping you to start your job search either locally or internationally and write the best possible CV to accompany your applications. The school also has a jobs board blog for our alumni which is regularly updated with the latest opportunities both here in Buenos Aires and abroad. For those candidates who wish to stay in Buenos Aires and work post course, we have many local contacts who are very keen to take on our graduates, having had lots of success working with our previous candidates. We can also put you in touch with previous candidates so that they can share their up to date experiences with you about living and working in Buenos Aires.
There is a wealth of accommodation available in Buenos Aires and we can provide prospective candidates with detailed information about various options, including bed & breakfast/hostels; home stays; shared apartments; and flats, many of which have been recommended to us by previous candidates. We will happily forward full information once your application has been received and can arrange home stay accommodation upon request, subject/according to availability.
Because of the intensive nature of the course, we recommend that candidates find accommodation as close to the institute as possible.
If you wish to look for accommodation further away then you should ensure that it has good transport links. In addition, a quiet place to study and work in the evenings and weekends is essential and internet connection is invaluable.
Deposits made are non-refundable. If a candidate cannot take a course due to illness or bereavement then the centre will try our best to defer the candidate to a later course, demand permitting.
Buenos Aires is the most visited city in South America and a gateway top the rest of the continent. Famous for its pristinely preserved Spanish/European-style architecture and rich cultural life, it is often called the Paris of the South.
Strongly influenced by European culture, the city has the busiest live theatre industry in the world and holds the second largest number of cultural festivals worldwide, after Edinburgh, with events and centres for all tastes, including cinema, dance, cuisine, music, sports, fashion, etc.
Buenos Aires is also the home of the Teatro Colón, an internationally rated opera house and there are several symphony orchestras and choral societies based in the city.
The city has numerous museums related to history, fine arts, modern arts, decorative arts, popular arts, sacred art, arts and crafts, theatre and popular music, as well as the preserved homes of noted art collectors, writers, composers and artists. The city is home to hundreds of bookstores, public libraries and cultural associations (it is also sometimes called "the city of books"). It has a world-famous zoo and botanical garden, hundreds of landscaped parks and squares, as well as churches and places of worship of many denominations, many of which are architecturally noteworthy.
There are also many first division football teams playing every weekend in the city, and there is also a bikeshare scheme for cyclists and perfect sailing conditions of the Rio de la plata and in the Delta at Tigre.
Completing my CELTA here in June 2024 was one of my favourite and most memorable experiences of being in Latin America. Neil and Kate are incredibly experienced and knowledgable teachers, and also very kind and encouraging. When I started the course I had no idea how to teach and by the end of 5 weeks I felt confident and happy in the classroom. Everyone at the school is very welcoming and I felt right at home. Everything I learnt during this experience is helping me to be a great teacher in my career now. I'm very grateful!
Lovely experienced. I learnt a lot more than I expected. The tutors were really helpful during the course and they are great people.
The course was extremely well thought out and the tutors were very effective. However, I felt like they were somewhat unwilling to help struggling students and unnecessarily/inappropriately harsh at times.
